Colombian Star Blessd Shatters Barriers as First Latino Artist to Open Ballon d’Or Ceremony

PARIS, France – In a moment that resonates far beyond the realm of sports and music, Colombian urban artist Blessd has etched his name into history by becoming the very first Latino artist to command the stage at the prestigious Ballon d’Or ceremony. The groundbreaking performance unfolded on September 22, 2025, at the iconic Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, marking a significant cultural milestone as the worlds of global football and Latin music converged.

A Historic Opening on the Global Stage

Blessd, whose real name is Stiven Mesa Londoño, kicked off the 69th edition of the Ballon d’Or gala with an electrifying rendition of his hit single “Condenado al Éxito II”. The performance, delivered on the event’s red carpet, was witnessed by an elite audience of nearly 2,000 guests, including football legends, top coaches, and industry executives. His powerful delivery brought a vibrant Latin flair to the international football spectacle, serving as a potent symbol of representation and cultural pride. This personal achievement for the artist also signifies a broader opening of doors for Latin American talent on the world’s most prominent stages.

The Rise of a Colombian Artist

Born on January 27, 2000, in Itagüí, Antioquia, Colombia, Blessd emerged from humble beginnings, finding solace and a pathway to success through music. His early life, marked by his parents’ separation and growing up in challenging circumstances, fueled his determination. He began his musical journey in rap battles before transitioning to the reggaeton and urbano latino sounds that have propelled him to international fame.

Blessd’s career gained significant momentum after signing with Warner Music Latina in October 2021, leading to the release of his debut album “Hecho en Medellín”. His subsequent works, including albums like “Si Sabe” released in 2024, have consistently charted and garnered widespread acclaim, with hits like “Medallo” amassing hundreds of millions of views. He has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, from Maluma and Feid to Peso Pluma, showcasing his versatility and broad appeal within the Latin music scene.

Music and Football: A Shared Passion

The significance of Blessd’s performance extends beyond his musical accomplishments. The artist himself has often spoken about his deep connection to football, viewing music and the sport as intertwined passions that bridge cultures. This personal connection is further underscored by his ventures into sports ownership, becoming one of the youngest investors in European football clubs like Vendsyssel FF in Denmark and Conquense in Spain.

His appearance at the Ballon d’Or is a testament to the growing global influence of Latin urban music and its ability to resonate with diverse audiences worldwide. For Blessd, the experience was a dream realized, a chance to represent Latinos, his homeland, and all dreamers on a global platform. “Music and football are bridges that unite us,” Blessd stated, reflecting on the historic occasion. “To represent Latinos, my country, and all dreamers at the Ballon d’Or is not only an honor—it’s a dream come true”.

A New Chapter for Representation

Blessd’s pioneering performance at the Ballon d’Or is more than just a personal triumph; it represents a pivotal moment for Latin music and culture on the international stage. By breaking down barriers and bringing his unique sound to one of the world’s most celebrated sporting events, he has paved the way for future artists and reinforced the universal power of music to connect and inspire. The news of his historic performance quickly spread, generating immense pride across Colombia and Latin America, solidifying Blessd’s status as a leading artist and a powerful cultural ambassador.
