Paz Lenchantin Unveils Evocative Debut Solo Album ‘Triste,’ Charting Decades of Musical Evolution

Jamal SmithJamal SmithAugust 20, 2025 1992 Minutes read0

In a highly anticipated announcement, Paz Lenchantin, renowned for her profound contributions as a bassist and multi-instrumentalist to iconic bands such as Pixies, A Perfect Circle, and Zwan, is set to release her deeply personal debut solo album, ‘Triste.’ This 12-track album is slated for an October 17 release via her self-established imprint, Hideous Human Records, marking a significant new chapter in her illustrious nearly three-decade-long career. The forthcoming music promises a rich tapestry of sound, weaving Latin folk textures with robust American rock structures, reflecting Lenchantin’s diverse musical journey and personal introspection.

A Solo Endeavor Born from Reflection

‘Triste’ represents a culmination of Lenchantin’s expansive artistic vision, showcasing her talents not only as a bassist but also as a pianist and a gifted orchestrator of string arrangements. Unique to this project, Lenchantin performed all instruments on the record herself before inviting a select group of Los Angeles-based musicians to contribute. The album’s conception began in the tranquil setting of Petatlán, Mexico, where Lenchantin spent much of 2024 immersed in writing. This period of solitude and creativity allowed her to explore profound themes of faith, doubt, and self-discovery, mirroring her personal experiences following her departure from Pixies in March 2024. The introspective nature of the writing process is expected to resonate deeply with listeners, offering a raw and honest glimpse into her soul.

Collaborative Brilliance and Sonic Architecture

The album features a stellar lineup of collaborators, including a reunion with former A Perfect Circle bandmates Josh Freese and Troy Van Leeuwen. Freese, celebrated for his dynamic drumming, and Van Leeuwen, known for his distinctive guitar work, lend their formidable talents to the project, adding layers of depth and familiarity for long-time fans. Additionally, Jeffertiti contributes to the lead single, “Hang Tough,” which offers a preview of the album’s intricate soundscapes and emotional depth. The meticulous sonic architecture of ‘Triste’ was brought to life through the mixing expertise of Chris Coady, an acclaimed producer and engineer known for his work with Beach House and TV on the Radio, among others. Coady’s involvement ensures a pristine and expansive audio experience, perfectly capturing the nuanced interplay of Lenchantin’s compositions.

From Ensemble Player to Singular Voice

Paz Lenchantin’s career has been defined by her versatility and adaptability across various genres and influential rock outfits. Before embarking on her solo path, she held the bass duties for Pixies for a decade, from 2014 to 2024, contributing to their albums ‘Head Carrier,’ ‘Beneath the Eyrie,’ and ‘Doggerel.’ Her tenure with A Perfect Circle saw her on their critically acclaimed 2000 release ‘Mer de Noms’ and later touring extensively. With Zwan, she was an integral part of Billy Corgan’s post-Smashing Pumpkins project, appearing on their sole album ‘Mary Star of the Sea.’ Her work with The Entrance Band further showcased her range, solidifying her reputation as a highly sought-after and respected musician. ‘Triste’ now sees Lenchantin stepping into the spotlight as a singular artistic voice, distilling her rich experiences into a cohesive and deeply personal statement.

Anticipation for a Landmark Release

The announcement of ‘Triste’ has been met with considerable excitement from fans and critics alike, eager to experience Lenchantin’s full creative spectrum. As an artist who has consistently elevated the music she’s touched, her debut solo album is poised to be a landmark release of 2024. It promises not only a testament to her enduring talent but also a poignant narrative of artistic evolution and personal growth.
