Lenexa Public Market Lights Up Hispanic Heritage Month with Friday Night Sound Bites & Empanada Fest

LENEXA, KS – The Lenexa Public Market is set to transform into a vibrant hub of culture, flavor, and rhythm on Friday, September 26, 2025, as it hosts the highly anticipated “Friday Night Sound Bites + Empanada Fest.” This special evening, running from 5 to 10 p.m., is a cornerstone event celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month, offering a rich tapestry of experiences for the entire community.

A Culinary Journey Celebrating Hispanic Heritage

The heart of the festival lies in its homage to the beloved empanada, a versatile pastry with roots across many Latin American cultures and beyond. This event promises an authentic tasting journey, inviting attendees to sample a wide array of empanadas from various local vendors. It’s an opportunity to discover the diverse interpretations of this global favorite and understand how it connects cultures worldwide. The celebration is in direct partnership with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City, underscoring a commitment to honoring and promoting the region’s vibrant Latino community. This collaboration amplifies the event’s significance, aligning it with broader initiatives to support and elevate Hispanic businesses and culture in the Greater Kansas City area.

Rhythmic Beats and Dynamic Performances

Adding a lively soundtrack to the festivities, the air will be filled with the infectious sounds of live Latin music from Selekto Show. Known for their energetic performances covering genres like bachata, salsa, and cumbia, Selekto Show guarantees a dynamic musical experience. Kicking off the musical offerings will be solo artist Pooki, providing a warm opening to the evening’s entertainment. Beyond the music, the event will also showcase incredible local talent with a thrilling freestyle soccer competition on the Lower Commons. This display of athleticism and skill adds another layer of excitement to the night.

An Interactive Empanada Experience

Attendees looking to engage directly with the empanada theme will have the chance to participate in an empanada contest from 5 to 6 p.m.. Participants can bring their own creations to be judged across five distinct categories, offering a fun and competitive element to the culinary celebration. This interactive aspect encourages personal involvement and a deeper appreciation for the culinary artistry involved in making these popular savory and sweet treats.

Community and Local Engagement

The Friday Night Sound Bites series itself is a staple at the Lenexa Public Market, running weekly from May through October, offering free live music and diverse food options. The Empanada Fest integration elevates this popular summer series, demonstrating the Market’s role as a community gathering space that celebrates diverse cultures and local entrepreneurs. The partnership with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City, an organization dedicated to fostering business development and networking within the Hispanic community since 1977, ensures the event resonates with authenticity and purpose. This event serves as timely news for residents looking for engaging cultural experiences as Hispanic Heritage Month continues.

The “Friday Night Sound Bites + Empanada Fest 2025” promises an unforgettable evening filled with delicious food, captivating latin music, and vibrant community spirit. It’s a must-attend event for anyone wishing to explore the rich cultural contributions of the Hispanic community right here in Lenexa.
