Paloma Mami Unveils ‘Códigos de Muñeka’: A Bold Evolution in Latin Music and Empowerment

Alejandro CruzAlejandro CruzAugust 20, 2025 2164 Minutes read0

Four years after her impactful debut, Chilean-American reggaeton pop star Paloma Mami has made a resounding return with her highly anticipated sophomore album, “Códigos de Muñeka.” Released on July 11, 2025, this 11-track project marks a significant step in the artist’s evolution, showcasing a newfound creative freedom and an unapologetic embrace of her multifaceted identity. The album not only delivers fresh sounds but also delves deep into themes of empowerment and versatility, cementing Paloma Mami’s position as a trailblazer in the contemporary latin music scene.

A Creative Reawakening

The period following her 2021 debut, “Sueños de Dalí,” saw Paloma Mami navigate a profound personal and artistic transformation. Where her initial project involved meticulous overthinking and frequent re-recording, “Códigos de Muñeka” emerged from a desire to be present and intentional in the studio. In a recent interview, Paloma Mami reflected on this shift, stating, “Sometimes when you’re creating, you think a lot about what people want to hear, and I was in a box for a long time.” This new approach allowed her to fully explore her creativity, shedding previous insecurities and embracing spontaneity. The result is a work that she describes as a full exploration of her growth, expressing a “fun side” she felt she had temporarily lost.

Deciphering ‘Códigos de Muñeka’

The album title, “Códigos de Muñeka,” which translates to “Doll Codes,” is central to its overarching message. Paloma Mami articulates that the concept revolves around empowerment through femininity, likening herself to a collection of dolls. “Dolls can do everything: they have different jobs, many talents, and styles,” she explains, emphasizing the album’s intention to present a multifaceted identity that resonates deeply with listeners. This metaphor underscores the versatility and strength woven throughout the 11 tracks, which also nod to her birthdate, November 11th, a number she considers lucky. The album debuted impressively at No. 12 on the Top Latin Pop Albums chart, a testament to its compelling concept and the artist’s growing influence.

Global Inspirations and Visual Storytelling

Paloma Mami’s global inspirations are vividly present in “Códigos de Muñeka.” She cites diverse influences, from the melodic stylings of Ñengo Flow to the bold, unapologetic attitude of Nicki Minaj, particularly drawing from Nicki’s album The Pinkprint. Beyond musical inspirations, Japanese culture and anime played a significant role in the album’s visual aesthetic. The artist conceived the idea of creating anime dolls, dubbed “Animami,” for each song, bringing different looks, hairstyles, and personalities to life. Collaborations with Crunchyroll allowed this vision to materialize, offering a unique visual experience that complements the music’s futuristic vibe. This blend of sounds and visuals highlights her Chilean-American heritage, incorporating cultural duality and even trilingual nuance into her art.

Strategic Collaborations and a New Chapter

“Códigos de Muñeka” features a stellar lineup of collaborations, each chosen for a specific, intuitive connection rather than strategic planning. Paloma Mami revealed that she heard the collaborators’ names in her head while creating the songs. The album boasts appearances from Latin music heavyweights such as Rauw Alejandro on the sensual track “LA FREAK” and DannyLux on the emotionally resonant “SiNKRONiZAMOS.” Other notable Chilean artists like Pablo Chill-E (“OJO DE HORUS”), Pailita, El Jordan 23 (“SiNTOMAS DE SOLTERA”), Marcianeke, and ITHAN NY (“DOSiS”) also contribute, showcasing a vibrant cross-section of urban Latin talent.

A significant development in Paloma Mami’s career is her recent signing with Double P Management, the powerhouse behind global sensation Peso Pluma. This move is particularly noteworthy as she becomes the first female artist and non-Mexican act on their roster. After managing much of her career independently for years, Paloma Mami expressed the importance of this robust support system. She feels the difference, noting that the team’s “strength and masculine energy” complements her own feminine energy, creating a crucial balance for her artistic focus. This strategic partnership signals a new, more cinematic era for the artist and symbolizes a broader shift towards inclusivity and recognition of female talent within the industry.

Balancing Worlds

Maintaining a delicate balance between her personal life and artistic pursuits, Paloma Mami divides her time between her family in Chile and seeking artistic inspiration in New York. This geographical and cultural duality is a grounding force for her, allowing her to stay connected to her roots while drawing from diverse global influences. Her journey, from her early independent releases like “Not Steady” to becoming a Grammy-nominated artist and the first Chilean signed to Sony Music Latin, underscores her persistence, innovation, and unwavering desire to express her identity through music.

“Códigos de Muñeka” is more than just an album; it is a declaration of artistic autonomy and female empowerment. Paloma Mami, as an artist, has redefined her creative process, proving that authenticity and personal growth are key to breaking barriers and forging a unique path in the ever-evolving world of latin music. Her new project is a compelling chapter, promising continued innovation and influence from this dynamic talent.
