Laura Pausini to Be Honored with Billboard Icon Award at 2025 Latin Music Awards Ceremony

Mina ParkMina ParkSeptember 16, 2025 2783 Minutes read0

MIAMI – Italian global superstar Laura Pausini will be recognized with the prestigious Billboard Icon Award at the 2025 Billboard Latin Music Awards ceremony, slated to take place on October 23rd at the James L. Knight Center in Miami. The event will be broadcast live on Telemundo and available for streaming on Peacock, celebrating the pinnacle of achievements in Latin music.

This esteemed award is bestowed upon artists who have demonstrated exceptional careers and a profound, lasting influence on contemporary music. For Pausini, this honor arrives at a significant moment, coinciding with her preparations to release a new album dedicated to the works of Latin American songwriters. Her upcoming “IO CANTO / YO CANTO WORLD TOUR 2026/2027,” her eleventh world tour, is set to commence in March 2026.

A Distinguished Career in Music

With a career spanning over three decades, Laura Pausini has established herself as a formidable force in the international music scene. Since her debut at the Sanremo Festival in 1993, she has captivated audiences with her emotive ballads and versatile vocal talent, selling more than 75 million records worldwide. While celebrated for her Italian roots, Pausini has cultivated a particularly deep and enduring connection with the Latin music world. Her foray into Spanish-language music began in 1994 with her self-titled album, which was quickly embraced across Latin America. This success led her to record numerous subsequent albums in Spanish, solidifying her status as the best-selling non-Hispanic female artist in the region.

Her contributions to Latin music have been recognized with multiple accolades, including four Latin GRAMMY Awards. In 2023, the Latin Recording Academy honored her as its Person of the Year, a testament to her significant impact and dedication to the genre and community. Pausini herself has expressed profound gratitude for this recognition from Billboard, noting that it feels particularly meaningful given her recent artistic direction, stating, “What excites me most is that this recognition comes in a year when, even before knowing I would receive it, I had already decided to release a tribute album to the great singer-songwriters of Spain and Latin America”.

The Significance of the Billboard Icon Award

The Billboard Icon Award was established to honor musical artists for their extraordinary contributions and enduring impact on culture and the music landscape. Introduced to the Billboard Latin Music Awards in 2021, it celebrates artists who have not only achieved longevity but have also become titans within their respective genres. Previous recipients of the Billboard Icon Award across different Billboard ceremonies include legends like Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Jennifer Lopez, Cher, Mariah Carey, and Mary J. Blige. In the Latin music sphere, the award has previously honored groups and artists such as Maná, Chayanne, and Ivy Queen. Pausini also received an Icon Award at the Billboard Women in Music event in Milan in September 2024, recognizing her vital role in popularizing Italian music globally.

A New Chapter: Tribute Album and World Tour

Pausini’s upcoming tribute album, “Io Canto 2 / Yo Canto 2,” will feature her interpretations of beloved songs by iconic Latin American and Spanish songwriters, showcasing her profound respect for the musical heritage that has embraced her. This project serves as a prelude to her extensive “IO CANTO / YO CANTO WORLD TOUR 2026/2027.” The tour is slated to kick off in Spain in March 2026 and will traverse Europe, Latin America, the United States, and Canada, promising to bring her celebrated music and dynamic stage presence to fans worldwide. Ticket sales for various legs of the tour have begun or are scheduled for mid-September 2025.

The 2025 Billboard Latin Music Awards Landscape

The 2025 Billboard Latin Music Awards ceremony is set to be a highlight of the music calendar, following the annual Billboard Latin Music Week, which runs from October 20th to 24th in Miami. The nominations, announced on September 10, 2025, showcase the vibrant and diverse landscape of current Latin music, with Bad Bunny leading the pack with a record-breaking 27 nominations. Other top contenders include Fuerza Regida, Rauw Alejandro, Karol G, Tito Double P, and Peso Pluma, underscoring the significant global reach and impact of Latin music. Pausini’s inclusion among these celebrated artists for the Icon Award further cements her status as a top-tier figure whose career stories resonate across generations and borders.

The Billboard Icon Award for Laura Pausini at the 2025 Billboard Latin Music Awards is a fitting tribute to an artist who has not only achieved immense personal success but has also acted as a cultural bridge, bringing her unique artistry to a global audience, particularly within the rich tapestry of latin music. Her extensive discography and unwavering connection with fans worldwide continue to define her legacy as one of music’s most cherished icons.
