Julian Catford is a guitarist whose musical journey is a testament to a lifelong passion for diverse guitar traditions. His unique sound is born from a fusion of his early love for American jazz improvisation and decades spent exploring global guitar music. Catford’s performances are characterized by an incredible variety of styles, featuring his own vibrant arrangements and compositions inspired by the music of Latin America. This includes genres such as bossa nova, tango, valse, Brazilian choro, flamenco jazz, and milonga.
Catford’s artistic development has been shaped by extensive study, including classical guitar lessons with renowned instructors like Carlos Barbosa-Lima and Guillermo Fierens. His performance experience spans international stages, including appearances in Spain, Scotland, Tahiti, and Mexico, as well as television, cruise ships, and musical theatre. He has also collaborated with numerous jazz artists and vocalists, and his solo recordings showcase his mastery of Brazilian and Latin-inspired jazz guitar.
The addition of Trevor Hanson for the second set promises an enriched musical experience. Hanson, a seven-string guitarist, is set to complement Catford’s dynamic performance with his own unique instrumental prowess. This collaboration is expected to bring a distinct dimension to the already diverse musical offerings.
The performance will take place at Vintage, located at 725 Water St, Port Townsend, WA 98368. The event is free of charge, making it an accessible cultural experience for the community.
