Tragedy Strikes Latin Music Scene: Argentine Artist Fede Dorcaz Fatally Shot in Mexico City

Gabriela HerreraGabriela HerreraOctober 13, 2025 2493 Minutes read0

The vibrant world of Latin music is in mourning following the tragic death of Argentine singer and model Fede Dorcaz, who was fatally shot in Mexico City on October 9, 2025. The 29-year-old artist, known for his burgeoning music career and charisma, was intercepted by assailants on motorcycles while driving his vehicle. Authorities are actively investigating the incident, which has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and raised renewed concerns about public safety.

A Rising Star in Latin Music

Born Federico Dorcazberro in Mar del Plata, Argentina, Fede Dorcaz embarked on a diverse career path before establishing himself as a promising artist. He moved to Spain at the age of 13 and began a successful career in modeling, walking runways across Europe and the United States. Around 2023, Dorcaz transitioned his focus to music, relocating to Mexico City to cultivate his artistic endeavors in the Latin American market. He was celebrated for his unique blend of pop, rock, and electronic music, aiming to redefine global Latin pop.

Dorcaz released his debut single, “Kuliyuki,” in 2017, and his debut album, “Instinto,” in October 2024, which featured tracks like “Cara Bonita,” “No Eres Tú,” and “Moka”. His music consistently charted on Mexico’s top radio hits, marking him as a significant emerging talent in the Latin music scene. He had also collaborated with producers who had previously worked with international stars, underscoring the high caliber of his work.

The Fatal Incident

On the evening of October 9, 2025, Dorcaz was driving a rented SUV along the Periférico ring road in Mexico City after finishing dance rehearsals for the upcoming season of the popular reality show “Las Estrellas Bailan en Hoy”. He was intercepted by individuals on motorcycles. Initial reports suggested the incident was an attempted robbery, with some sources indicating he was shot in the neck while trying to drive away. However, as the investigation progressed, authorities began to consider it a targeted attack, especially as nothing appeared to have been stolen from the vehicle. The Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security confirmed the shooting, noting that forensic teams and surveillance footage analysis were underway to identify the perpetrators.

Investigation and Broader Context

The Mexico City Investigative Police (PDI) and the Attorney General’s Office are leading the investigation into Dorcaz’s murder. Surveillance footage from the area is being meticulously analyzed to track the movements of the suspects, who were reportedly on two motorcycles. Despite extensive efforts, no arrests have been made, and a definitive motive remains elusive. Investigators are exploring various hypotheses, including potential links to organized crime or personal disputes, although Dorcaz’s girlfriend has vehemently denied any involvement in illicit activities.

Dorcaz’s untimely death highlights a disturbing trend of violence affecting public figures in Mexico. In recent months, other artists, including Colombian musicians Bayron Sánchez Salazar and Jorge Luis Herrera Lemos, have also been victims of violence in the region, underscoring ongoing safety concerns for artists and influencers.

A Personal Loss and Industry Grief

Fede Dorcaz was in a public relationship with Mariana Ávila, a Venezuelan actress and influencer, who was also set to be his dance partner on “Las Estrellas Bailan en Hoy”. Ávila shared deeply emotional tributes on social media following his death, expressing her profound grief and love for him. The production team of “Las Estrellas Bailan en Hoy” also issued a heartfelt statement mourning the loss of their friend and colleague, emphasizing the significant void he leaves behind. Colleagues and fans have remembered Dorcaz for his vibrant personality, infectious energy, and dedication to his craft.

Fede Dorcaz’s death represents a significant loss to the latin music and entertainment landscape. As the investigation continues, the focus remains on bringing those responsible to justice and reflecting on the safety of artists working in Mexico. His legacy as a talented musician and artist is cemented, with his passion and memory continuing to inspire many.
