Union County Gears Up for 2025 Hispanic Heritage Family Fun Day & Awards: A Celebration of Culture, Influence, and Community Stars

Genesis OrtizGenesis OrtizSeptember 25, 2025 1773 Minutes read0

Union County is set to host its vibrant annual Hispanic Heritage Family Fun Day and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, October 4, 2025, transforming Warinanco Park in Roselle into a hub of cultural celebration and community recognition. From 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, residents are invited to experience an afternoon dedicated to honoring the rich tapestry of Hispanic and Latino cultures that significantly contribute to the fabric of Union County.

A Day of Festive Celebration and Cultural Immersion

The Family Fun Day promises an engaging experience for all ages, designed to foster community pride and celebrate the diverse heritage rooted in Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Attendees can anticipate a lively atmosphere filled with live musical entertainment, offering a diverse soundtrack of cultural rhythms. The air will be alive with the sounds of traditional and contemporary music, drawing inspiration from a wide array of latin influences. Beyond the music, the event will feature captivating cultural performances, creative arts and crafts stations, and an array of inflatable activities for children, ensuring non-stop fun and engagement for younger attendees. Community organizations will also be present, offering resources and insights. Adding to the festive spirit, a variety of food trucks will serve up delicious latin-inspired cuisine, with free vouchers available while supplies last, providing a culinary journey through the flavors of Hispanic heritage.

Honoring Local Trailblazers with Hispanic Heritage Awards

Central to the day’s festivities is the presentation of the 2025 Hispanic Heritage Awards. This esteemed ceremony will recognize individuals, leaders, and organizations whose outstanding contributions have profoundly shaped the future of Union County. These awards serve as a crucial platform to acknowledge the vision, dedication, and impact of those who are defining culture and influence within the community. The ceremony highlights the personal stories of achievement and dedication, showcasing the resilience and success that define the Hispanic and Latino experience in Union County and beyond. These honorees represent the top tier of community leaders and change-makers whose work inspires the next generation.

Leadership and Vision: A Message of Unity and Empowerment

The event underscores the commitment of the Union County Board of County Commissioners to celebrating diversity. Commissioner Chairwoman Lourdes M. Leon, the first Hispanic woman to lead the Board and the daughter of Cuban immigrants, expressed the personal significance of these celebrations. “Hispanic Heritage Month is more than a commemoration—it’s a celebration of the journeys and traditions that shaped us,” Leon stated. “As the first Hispanic woman to serve on this Board, and as the daughter of Cuban immigrants, I carry those stories with me every day. These events give us a chance not only to honor our culture but to share it proudly with our neighbors, inspiring the next generation to see themselves reflected in Union County’s history and future.” Commissioner Sergio Granados, who is of Salvadoran descent, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the role of culture in building identity and strength. “For me, this celebration is deeply personal,” Granados said. “My family’s journey from El Salvador to Union County taught me the value of resilience, opportunity, and community. Family Fun Day captures all of that—a space where families can enjoy themselves while we also lift up the residents, leaders and organizations who make a lasting difference. This event is proof that our heritage is alive not only in the traditions we share, but in the commitments we make to each other every day.”

A Month-Long Observance of Culture and History

The Family Fun Day and Awards Ceremony is a cornerstone of Union County’s broader Hispanic Heritage Month programming, which runs from September 15 to October 15, 2025. This period honors the diverse histories, cultures, and invaluable contributions of Hispanic Americans throughout the nation’s history. Other events include an art exhibit by Roberto de la Selva, a sensory-friendly movie night featuring “Encanto,” and a Hispanic Leadership Panel, all contributing to a rich calendar of cultural engagement throughout the county.

Union County’s Hispanic Heritage Family Fun Day and Awards Ceremony invites all residents to come together, celebrate shared values, and experience the vibrant culture that enriches the community. It is an opportunity to connect, learn, and honor the individuals and traditions that continue to define and influence Union County’s promising future.
