Rauw Alejandro Explores Ancestral Roots with Sultry New Single ‘GuabanSexxx’ Ahead of Sixth Album ‘Cosa Nuestra: Capítulo 0’

Carlos AbreuCarlos AbreuSeptember 12, 2025 2632 Minutes read0

Puerto Rican superstar Rauw Alejandro has once again captivated the music scene with the release of his latest single, “GuabanSexxx.” The sultry track, accompanied by a music video, serves as the final preview before the much-anticipated launch of his sixth studio album, “Cosa Nuestra: Capítulo 0.”

A Fusion of Ancient and Modern Rhythms

“GuabanSexxx” draws deep inspiration from Guabancex, the Taíno goddess of storms and chaos, blending ancestral energy with contemporary sounds. The song is a vibrant fusion of House, Bomba, and Plena, showcasing Alejandro’s innovative approach to latin music by connecting traditional Afro-Caribbean rhythms with global pop boundaries. This unique sonic tapestry reflects Alejandro’s commitment to honoring Puerto Rico’s rich musical heritage while pushing its evolution forward.

‘Cosa Nuestra: Capítulo 0’ Continues a Legacy

The upcoming album, “Cosa Nuestra: Capítulo 0,” is conceived as a prequel to his critically acclaimed 2024 album, “Cosa Nuestra.” The original “Cosa Nuestra” album itself was a significant success, debuting at number one on Billboard’s Latin Albums chart and number six on the Billboard 200, and notably became the first Latin album to have 15 songs simultaneously in the Spotify Global Top 200. “Capítulo 0” aims to narrate the origins of this musical project, paying a modern tribute to Afro-Caribbean rhythms, particularly Puerto Rican bomba.

Alejandro has described “Cosa Nuestra” as his way of representing his island, culture, and people, stating that “every detail—the beats, the visuals, the dancing—reflects part of our Puerto Rican roots and our connection with other sister cultures.”

A Trail of Successful Previews

“GuabanSexxx” follows two previously released singles from “Cosa Nuestra: Capítulo 0” that have already generated significant buzz. “Carita Linda,” a neo-bomba hit that pays homage to his Puerto Rican heritage, became his twelfth number-one hit on the Latin Airplay chart. “Buenos Términos” offered a more intense and tempestuous exploration of a passionate, albeit toxic, relationship, accompanied by a cinematic music video.

Recognition for Visionary Contributions

This period of prolific musical output coincides with significant career recognition for Rauw Alejandro. He was recently honored with the 2025 Hispanic Heritage Award for Vision by the Hispanic Heritage Foundation in Washington D.C. The award celebrates his groundbreaking contributions to Latin music and his role in shaping its global future. Accepting the award, Alejandro dedicated it to the Hispanic community and emphasized the power of cultural diversity in art.

A Global Impact

Rauw Alejandro, a 32-year-old artist from Puerto Rico, has cemented his status as a global music icon, known for his experimental sound and numerous collaborations. His discography includes successful albums such as “Afrodisíaco” (2020), “Vice Versa” (2021), “Saturno” (2022), and “Cosa Nuestra” (2024), all of which have contributed to his reputation as a leading figure in contemporary latin music. The release of “GuabanSexxx” and the upcoming “Cosa Nuestra: Capítulo 0” album further underscore his continuous evolution and profound impact on the music landscape.

The launch of “GuabanSexxx” also aligns with the preparations for the Latin American leg of his “Cosa Nuestra” world tour, set to begin in October 2025.
