Nathy Peluso Reclaims Salsa with Fierce New EP ‘Malportada’, Set for October 16 Release

Jack ReilyJack ReilyOctober 13, 2025 1972 Minutes read0

Nathy Peluso, the boundary-pushing Argentine artist known for her eclectic fusion of genres, is set to release her highly anticipated salsa EP, ‘Malportada,’ on October 16th. This new project dives headfirst into the vibrant world of salsa, aiming to redefine its narrative and reclaim it for a new generation of rebels and free spirits.

A Bold New Chapter in Latin Music

The announcement of ‘Malportada’ has generated significant buzz, with Peluso having teased her musical direction through exclusive salsa playlists and a surprise appearance alongside legendary salsa artist Gloria Estefan in Madrid. This EP marks a significant artistic statement, as Peluso looks to infuse the classic genre with her signature strength and defiant attitude. “Salsa is raw and passionate, it is the music of the untamed and the indestructible, and now it also belongs to the misfits,” Peluso shared, emphasizing her intent to move beyond traditional interpretations of femininity within the genre. She added, “I have always been a rebel, a misfit. They’ve tried to tame me and correct me so many times, but my wild spirit has always led me down the best roads.”

Masterful Collaboration and Production

Recorded in Puerto Rico in May 2025, ‘Malportada’ comprises six unreleased tracks. The EP boasts a stellar lineup of collaborators, underscoring Peluso’s commitment to sonic excellence. The title track, “Malportada,” features a collaboration with the Venezuelan band Rawayana. Contributing to the EP’s rich soundscape are Manuel Lara, who previously worked with Peluso on her acclaimed 2024 album ‘Grasa’ and has produced for major artists like Bad Bunny and Kali Uchis, and Servando Primera, a renowned Venezuelan songwriter behind hits such as Maluma’s “Felices los 4” and Becky G’s “Mayores.” Beto Montenegro of Rawayana also lent his talents as a co-writer and co-producer, expressing his excitement to be part of Peluso’s “powerhouse” project.

Reimagining Salsa for the Modern Era

Nathy Peluso has a history of blending diverse musical influences, seamlessly incorporating elements of Latin pop, hip-hop, R&B, and electronic music into her work. While her previous albums like ‘Calambre’ and ‘Grasa’ showcased this versatility, ‘Malportada’ signifies a dedicated exploration and reinterpretation of salsa’s deep roots. The EP is described as an “intense, visceral, danceable, and character-filled journey,” designed to present multiple facets of the artist’s musical identity. This project not only adds a new dimension to Peluso’s discography but also highlights her role in evolving and popularizing Latin music for a global audience.

A Continued Global Impact

The release of ‘Malportada’ arrives as Peluso continues her successful ‘Grasa’ world tour, which has seen sold-out shows in iconic venues across Mexico City and Buenos Aires. The tour is scheduled to conclude in Spain in February 2026. Beyond her music, Peluso’s dynamic stage presence and empowering messages have cemented her status as a significant voice in contemporary music. Her ability to fuse tradition with innovation ensures that her stories resonate widely, making ‘Malportada’ a highly anticipated addition to her impressive body of work, further solidifying her position as a top artist in the modern music landscape.
