Tito Puente Jr. to Headline Free Outdoor Hispanic Heritage Concert at Westfield Garden State Plaza

Santiago VargasSantiago VargasSeptember 18, 2025 1913 Minutes read0

Westfield Garden State Plaza is set to transform into a vibrant hub of rhythm and culture this Friday, September 19, 2025, as it hosts an outdoor Hispanic Heritage Month concert headlined by the acclaimed Latin performer Tito Puente Jr. This highly anticipated event marks the second annual celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month at the Paramus, New Jersey, shopping destination, building on the success of its inaugural Salsa Night in 2024.

A Star-Studded Celebration

From 5:00 PM, the plaza, located near Fogo de Chão and Seasons 52, will come alive with a live DJ spinning Latin hits to set the festive mood. The main attractions will be two 45-minute performances by Tito Puente Jr. and his renowned 10-piece orchestra, scheduled for 6:30 PM and 7:45 PM. Guests can expect an evening filled with high-energy salsa music, infectious rhythms, and ample opportunities for dancing, all designed to pay tribute to the rich traditions of Latin culture. Wesley Rebisz, Senior General Manager of Westfield Garden State Plaza, highlighted the event’s community focus, stating, “This event is more than a concert—it’s a celebration of music, heritage, and community that brings people together from across North Jersey and beyond.” He added, “We are thrilled to welcome an iconic entertainer like Tito Puente, Jr. to Westfield Garden State Plaza and look forward to dancing the night away with our guests.” The entire program is free and open to the public, promising a memorable night for all.

Carrying the Torch of a Musical Legacy

Tito Puente Jr. steps into the spotlight as the son of the legendary Ernesto Antonio “Tito” Puente Sr., celebrated worldwide as “The King of Mambo” and “The King of Latin Music.” Tito Puente Sr., a seminal figure in Latin jazz, mambo, and salsa, was a prolific bandleader, composer, and musician whose innovative fusion of jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms defined an era. He garnered numerous accolades, including multiple Grammy Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award. Tito Puente Jr. continues this illustrious musical tradition, bringing his own dynamic interpretations and vibrant energy to the stage, ensuring that his father’s influential sound and spirit live on. His performances are a continuation of the top-tier latin music that has captivated audiences for decades.

More Than Just Music

Beyond the electrifying performances, the celebration at Westfield Garden State Plaza offers a comprehensive experience for attendees. The plaza is enhancing the festivities with special food and beverage offerings from its diverse array of restaurants. Attendees can also look forward to giveaways, limited-time retailer promotions, and a prize wheel, adding an extra layer of excitement to the evening. Gates open at 5:00 PM, allowing ample time to enjoy the atmosphere and explore the various activities before the main musical acts begin. For those wishing to extend the celebration, an after-party at Pinstripes is also mentioned.

Honoring Hispanic Heritage Month

This concert is a key event within the observance of Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated annually from September 15 to October 15. This period is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans whose ancestors hail from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Events like the one at Westfield Garden State Plaza serve to highlight the diverse and significant impact of Hispanic and Latino communities on American society, fostering understanding, appreciation, and pride. The musical stories woven into these celebrations offer a powerful connection to heritage and identity.

Westfield Garden State Plaza’s Hispanic Heritage Month concert promises a night of dazzling music, vibrant culture, and community engagement. With free admission and a stellar lineup, it stands as a prime example of how public spaces can host significant cultural events that resonate with a wide audience. Residents and visitors alike are invited to join the fiesta for an unforgettable evening celebrating the richness of Hispanic heritage.
