Bad Bunny Dominates 2025 Latin Grammy Nominations, Ushering in a New Era of Top Music Stories

Natalia TorresNatalia TorresSeptember 17, 2025 2683 Minutes read0

The music world is abuzz as the nominations for the 26th Annual Latin Grammy Awards were unveiled on September 17, 2025, with Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny leading the pack with an impressive 12 nods. This significant haul marks a shift at the top, dethroning producer and songwriter Édgar Barrera, who had held the distinction of most nominations for the previous two years. The highly anticipated ceremony is set to take place on November 13, 2025, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Bad Bunny’s Staggering Nomination Count

Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, has secured nominations across a wide array of categories, underscoring his expansive influence on contemporary latin music. His album “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” is a strong contender, earning nominations for Album of the Year and Urban Music Album of the Year. Further recognizing his diverse artistry, he is also nominated for Urban/Urban Fusion Performance, Reggaeton Performance, Roots Song, and Short Form Music Video. Bad Bunny’s versatility is further highlighted by multiple nominations in both the Record of the Year and Song of the Year categories for his tracks “DTmF” and “Baile Inolvidable”. He also garnered two nominations in the Best Urban Song category for “La Mudanza” and “DTmF”.

A Shift in the Nomination Landscape

For the past two years, Édgar Barrera, a prolific songwriter and producer known for his work with numerous top artists, had led the nomination lists. In 2023, Barrera received 13 nominations, and in 2024, he garnered nine. This year, Barrera is tied for the second-highest number of nominations with 10 nods, sharing this position with the Argentinian hip-hop duo CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso. Barrera’s continued presence highlights his significant and consistent impact on the latin music industry.

Key Categories and Notable Contenders

The prestigious Album of the Year category features a rich tapestry of talent, reflecting the genre’s diversity. Alongside Bad Bunny’s “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” other nominated albums include “Cosa Nuestra” by Rauw Alejandro, “Papota” by CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso, “Raíces” by Gloria Estefan, “Puñito De Yocahú” by Vicente García, “al romper la burbuja” by Joaquina, “Cancionera” by Natalia Lafourcade, “Palabra De To’s (Seca)” by Carín León, “Caju” by Liniker, “En Las Nubes – Con Mis Panas” by Elena Rose, and “¿Y Ahora Qué?” by Alejandro Sanz.

In the Record of the Year category, both Bad Bunny and CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso have earned dual nominations. Other artists vying for this award include Natalia Lafourcade, Alejandro Sanz, Jorge Drexler & Conociendo Rusia, Zoe Gotusso, Karol G, and Liniker. The Best New Artist category also showcases a vibrant group of emerging talents, with nominations for Alleh, Annasofia, Yerai Cortés, Juliane Gamboa, Camila Guevara, Isadora, Alex Luna, Paloma Morphy, Sued Nunes, and Ruzzi.

Expansion and New Frontiers

This year’s Latin Grammy Awards also introduce new dimensions to the celebrated awards with the addition of a new field dedicated to Visual Media. This includes the new category for Best Music for Visual Media, recognizing excellence in music created for film and television. Additionally, the Best Roots Song category has been added, further broadening the scope of traditional and folk influences acknowledged by the Academy.

Celebrating Global Latin Music

Manuel Abud, CEO of The Latin Recording Academy, emphasized the growing global reach of Latin music in a statement: “The impact of Latin music continues to grow on a global level, and all of the nominated artists encompass its diversity and richness while continuing to preserve the iconic sounds that make our music unique.”. The nominations for the 26th Annual Latin Grammy Awards were selected from recordings released between June 1, 2024, and May 31, 2025, across 60 categories.

The final round of voting to determine the winners will commence on October 1, 2025, leading up to the grand ceremony on November 13th. The broadcast will air live on TelevisaUnivision’s U.S. platforms, promising another memorable celebration of the world’s most dynamic music.
